I have to reluctantly admit that this disc is just a little too intense for me to “enjoy.” But I can understand how it reaches the top of your list. Well chosen.

I really like the raw energy of Mavis’ live recording. The guitar sounds are raw and soulful. I like the fact you can hear the room. You get a sense you are right there in the venue and the air conditioning isn’t working but it doesn’t matter, everyone is into it. I want to be THAT guitar player in THAT band in THAT moment. Do you know if there are any auditions for her band coming up?

Cool thread. I really like this notion of cross-pollination/inspiration, too. So many writers have particular musicians they listen to in order to get the words to flow. Why shouldn’t tonal influences be similarly widespread among musicians and singers?

Well, I guess you also have to know how to play the riffs. I mean, tone wise simplifying your rig down to tele, compressor, and amp is all you need. The rest is really up to your fingers.
